Review: Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick

**I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.**

There are few brands that I will genuinely get as excited about as I was when I received the email about Influenster’s Kat Von D Studded kiss VoxBox. A brand and an influencer that I have always loved, Kat Von D demonstrates so much of what I love about the world of alternative style. I can remember watching Kat Von D on LA Ink and dreaming about all the tattoos that I was going to get inspired by her and her work. At the time, I had just broken into this world with my first tattoo and I was already understanding why people say that they are addicting!

For those that are unfamiliar with Influenster, it is an online community for ‘savvy shoppers’ to review all different categories of products, from food and household supplies to beauty and cosmetics. The reviews on the website allow you to make better, more informed purchase decisions, introduce you to the newest products and help you to track the products you personally have tried and tested. Furthermore, for the bloggers, vloggers and social media influencers on the site, the company will sometimes send out complimentary products in exchange for honest reviews. These come in small packages known as a ‘VoxBox.’ If you’re an influencer and haven’t given it a try, I highly recommend that you check it out!

This specific box was sent out to a number of influencers to provide us with the opportunity to experience the new formula of Kat Von D’s Studded Kiss Crème Lipstick. Specifically, the box included a full-size lipstick – I received OG Lolita.

The whole Studded Kiss lineup includes over 40 different shades, which means that there’s really something for everyone – with everything from basic neutral shades to some of the more dramatic and creative colors including Poe, Plan9, and Roxy. I couldn’t help but spend some time just lusting over the incredible colours!

The lipstick sells on the Kat Von D Beauty website for $24 CAD ($19 USD). For those living in the United States, the website boasts free 3-day shipping on orders of $50 or more and free US returns. For the rest of us, free shipping is still available to international customers on any orders totaling $150 or more.

Their website states: “Discover your new go-to color from Kat Von D’s biggest, boldest shade range. The collection includes 40 shades in 3 finishes (satin-matte, glimmer and metallic) featuring rich reds, bold berries, neutrals for every complexion and beloved Everlasting Liquid Lipstick shades, now in studded Kiss. Or use ‘White Out’ mixer, Kat Von D’s first-ever pure white long wear lipstick, to mix and customize your own perfect shades.”

I’m going to be honest and say that I am not one to own a lot of lip products simply because my life isn’t overly conducive to wearing them. As a saxophone player, I have to limit what I’m wearing or it’s just going to be all over the reed and mouthpiece when I’m playing. For that reason, lipsticks are generally reserved for fancy events, galas, weddings or nights out with friends. My collection is dominated by bright blood reds, deep burgundies, and rich dark plum shades – but there is a serious lack of neutral tones!

Let’s start with first impressions – the packaging. How can you not love the studded detail? I know that this is the same as the old formula packaging, but it deserves a mention! The lipstick interlocks securely, eliminating the chances of losing a lid while traveling (important for someone that’s always on the go). Furthermore, the lipstick itself is emblazoned with an imprint of the Kat Von D logo, adding the perfect finishing touch.

When it came time to apply the lipstick, I was incredibly impressed by how creamy and pigmented it was to apply. I was surprised to see that it only required one coat to provide a beautiful ‘nude rose’ shade, and I was instantly in love.

I will say, this isn’t a stain, so it does transfer throughout the day. That being said, wearing the lipstick out and about I noticed that a great deal of pigmentation remained on my lips despite seeing evidence of it on my cups and straws throughout the day. It required minimal reapplication, which is impressive for a cream style lip product like this! I got many compliments from friends, family and even a couple complete strangers – the colour itself was gorgeous! I used to avoid neutrals, but this one definitely won me over!

Final Opinion: I loved this lipstick, and I will definitely be looking into purchasing other shades! If you were turned off by the dryness of the original Studded Kiss formula, or if you haven’t tried a Kat Von D lip product before, I highly recommend you give this one a chance!

What is your ‘must-have’ lipstick brand? Are you a neutral lip person, or a bold lip person? Have you previously tried any of the Kat Von D Beauty line of products? I’d love to hear everyone’s opinions in the comments below!

  1. I have been meaning to try a Kat Von D makeup product for so long! I really want to go check out the lipsticks now! Btw, the color looks great on you! ?

    1. This is definitely worth trying – the old formula was pretty dry, but this one is great! I wasn’t sure about the colour at first until I tried it on, then I was sold lol

    1. I was actually surprised how well the colour worked for me, and I’ll be using it again. The product is great, I’m buying more!

  2. I have the KVD Lolita as well and I love it. Not the star studded package but the one that comes in liquid liner pack. They are easier to apply and last a long day without a reapply. They are worth the price.
