The first snow has fallen in many places across Canada and the United States, reminding us that winter is knocking. Christmas is just around the corner and many of us are starting to sort through our plans for gift giving this year. If you’re stuck for gift ideas for the outdoor enthusiast in your life, I’ve got you covered!

From television commercials and magazines to Facebook ads and Internet pop-ups, Christmas is coming, and everyone is quick to remind us! While there is no arguing that Christmas can get expensive, you may be surprised to learn that the average Canadian is actually cutting back on their Christmas spending. In fact, a survey from Equifax Canada revealed that more than 50% of Canadians plan on spending less money on gifts this year compared to years past.
This scaling back may impact how many people you are purchasing for, limiting your gift-giving to just your closest friends and family members. However, many shoppers are simply being more mindful of what they are buying. Gone are the years that we bought everything and anything, many of our gifts set aside after they are received never to be looked at again. Instead, we’re taking the time to find that one special gift we know our loved one is going to treasure.
Are you shopping for someone who spends their free time outdoors, taking part in activities like camping, hiking, canoeing, kayaking, and more? If so, you may find yourself stuck on what direction to take with your gift-giving this year. Especially if you don’t share the same interests.
Check Out These Gift Ideas for the Outdoors Enthusiast! There’s Sure to be Something for Everyone!

Gifts Under $20

LED Camping Lantern with Ceiling Fan ($16.99) – If you’ve ever spent a night out in a tent, you know that one of the big things that a camper must consider is how they are going to light their space enough to make their way around the tent safely. This is especially true if you’re travelling with kids or pets! Not only does this LED lantern offer a significant amount of light, easily hooking to hang from the top of the tent, it also includes a fan to promote air circulation.
Telescoping Marshmallow Roasting Sticks ($8.97) – No campfire is complete without roasting marshmallows and creating smores, right? These roasting sticks extend to 34 inches, allowing kids to stay a safe distance from the fire. When you’re done, they fold up incredibly small and fit into the provided carry bag, making them easy to transport.
2-Pack Microfiber Fast Drying Towels ($9.87) – Not only do these towels pack up easily in their own carry bag, making them easy to transport, but they also dry 10 times faster than the average towel! These are not only great for campers; they are handy for any travel lover.
Inflatable Camping Pillow ($13.25) – If you’re spending the night in an RV or car camping, you’re likely going to bring your big fluffy pillow along. However, if the person that you’re buying for enjoys backcountry camping, they need to conserve on space. This incredibly comfortable pillow deflates to make it lightweight and incredibly compact.
Portable Waterproof Solar Charger ($18.86) – While some outdoors enthusiasts like to unplug completely, others prefer to carry their phones or tablets with them to capture photos, chat with friends or even just for an emergency option. This portable power bank not only provides an effective option for charging your devices, but it also includes a compass and 2 LED light flashlight.
USB Rechargeable Headlamp ($14.97) – I am a firm believer that every camper and hiker should have a high-quality headlamp among their gear. It’s the perfect way to ensure that you have enough light to navigate at night while keeping your hands free to tackle whatever task is before you. This particular headlamp is rechargeable, offering up to 30 hours of light off a single charge.
Gifts Under $50

Ultra Lightweight Water-Resistant Hiking Daypack ($29.99) – When we head out camping, one of our favourite daytime activities is to hit the trails. Depending on how long their planned hiking excursion is, your loved one may need a daypack to carry supplies. This particular pack is not only lightweight, but any gear will stay dry if your friend or family member finds themselves caught in the rain.
Oversized Folding Camp Chair ($44.97) – Everyone knows that a camp chair is important when camping, giving you somewhere to sit and take a load off that’s a little more comfortable than a rock, log or picnic table bench. However, this oversized chair takes comfort to a whole new level!
2-Person Hammock ($25.99) – There are few things as comfortable as kicking back and relaxing in a hammock when you’re outdoors. I can’t imagine going camping without one, and that special person in your life doesn’t have to either! The suspension system for this hammock has a maximum capacity of 1000lbs, meaning that it’s perfect for a couple interested in relaxing together.
Extra Thick Inflatable Sleeping Pad with Built-In Pump ($36.95) – Campers have a wide variety of options available to them when considering air mattresses, cots and sleeping pads. However, if your loved one is looking for something rugged and compact, this sleeping pad is a great option! With a built-in foot pump, inflating it to the perfect level of firmness is easy. When not in use, deflated and folded up, it will comfortably fit in their backpack or luggage.
Rechargeable Camping Lantern with Detachable Flashlights ($28.99) – I am a huge fan of anything rechargeable for camping. After all, if you’re heading out to enjoy the great outdoors, you should also be doing what you can to protect it. Stuck out in the middle of nowhere with no option to charge? There is also an option to use battery power. Not only will this offer a great lantern to sit on the picnic table around the campsite, but your loved one has the option to remove the detachable flashlights on 2 sides for additional lighting options.
Coleman Xtreme Heavy-Duty Wheeled 50-Quart Cooler ($41.35) – While this cooler is may be a little overkill for a backyard BBQ, a heavy-duty cooler can make a BIG difference if your loved one enjoys camping for longer periods of time. In fact, this specific cooler can keep ice for up to 5 days, cutting back on how often they have to purchase ice to keep their food and drinks cold.
Gifts Under $100

Coleman All-Terrain Double High Air Bed ($99.99) – If you follow me on Instagram, you have already seen this air bed as I shared shortly after purchasing my own. Not only is this bed incredibly comfortable, but with the ‘puncture guard’ technology, it is more puncture-resistant and capable of holding a heavier weight limit than the average air bed. This makes it perfect for us and the dogs! The airbed is a standard queen-size.
Coleman QuikPot Propane Coffee Maker ($84.56) – I’m a coffee addict and I know I’m not alone! This incredible coffee maker runs off a single propane cylinder, allowing your friend or family member to make a fresh pot of coffee at the campsite, even if they don’t have access to electricity. After all, coffee is one of the essentials!
Heated Camp Chair with 5-Pockets and Cup Holder ($99.99) – Okay, confession, this one is a little bit extra, but if you’re getting someone a gift and have the budget, why not go a little extra? This easy to fold and transport chair features ‘hot seat’ technology, allowing your friend or family member to enjoy a little warmth while camping, or even while watching a child’s soccer game, tailgating, etc. It is important to note that this listing does NOT include the USB battery, that will have to be purchased separately.
Mr. Heater Propane Radiant Heater ($69.97) – While most people will reserve camping for the warmer weather, there are a few of us that like to push the boundaries a little. If your friend or family member enjoys camping in a tent in the late fall or even into the winter, they will love this heater! This unit kicks out a lot of heat. Furthermore, it is equipped with an important safety feature: the unit will auto shut-off if it is tipped over, if the pilot light goes out or if it detects low oxygen levels.
Dry Bag Backpack with USB Solar Bluetooth Speaker ($54.99) – If your loved one is into canoeing, kayaking or boating, they are likely already familiar with the importance of dry bags. This specific dry bag, however, is like the swiss army knife of dry bags. Not only is it designed to keep gear dry, but it also has backpack straps to make it easy to transport and a built-in solar-powered Bluetooth speaker so that they can have their tunes on the go.
Coleman Sundome 4-person Tent ($63.99) – I can’t put together a list of gift ideas for the outdoor enthusiast and not include a tent! You may have already noticed based on a couple of other items on this list, I am a huge fan of the Coleman brand as their products are reliable and long-lasting. This tent is incredibly easy to set up and the WeatherTec system is designed to keep your loved one dry.

Are there any items on this list that you would love to receive this Christmas? What other outdoor gear has caught your attention?
Some really great ideas here! My husband and I love camping but haven’t had much chance the last few years with two little people. But I love the sound of the oversized camping chair and two person hammock. Perfect for a couple’s retreat. And I’ve never heard of telescopic marshmallow sticks but they sound AWESOME!
Sounds like you are overdue for a couple’s getaway!
Love these ideas and that heated chair so cool!!
Just imagine curling up in that chair in the middle of nowhere, enjoying the sights in style lol
That heated camp chair looks like a dream!
It does look pretty awesome! A little luxury while outside hahaha
Ok hold the phone, this list is awesome. I literally want everything on this list, so you nailed it! I do have marshmallow roasting sticks but I’m missing out on everything else!
Haha! There are a few things here that have been added to my own list while I was putting this together. I know I could use a new headlamp for example, and I instantly fell in love with that lantern with detachable flashlights… how handy is that???

Ahhh…this is great! My hubby & I are always looking for outdoorsy stuff & we may just check out a couple of these things listed here for ourselves! 😀 Especially since we plan on doing more camping road trips early next year!
Confession – My husband and I already own about half the items listed, and we’re considering picking up most of the items we don’t have lol
Some great suggestions on this list!
Thank you!
Love the list. It is really helpful that you have ideas for every price point in your article.
I have several friends who love outdoors and I am sure this will be helpful.
I am a firm believer that there are great options for everyone, regardless of the budget you’re working with! To be honest, of everything included on this guide, the one thing I am seriously debating treating myself with now is on the under $20 list lol

I am always on the search for rechargeable options for my camping so that batteries aren’t a concern. We carry a portable charging bank and can use that to recharge our gear as needed.
I’m not a camper, but I would most definitely want that hammock!
Hannah the Mad Dog
I LIVE for my hammock time both while I’m at camp but also just relaxing in my back yard.
Will have to pin this for later. We are an outdoorsy family, so a lot of these gifts look amazing.
I’m sure you’ll find something there that will come in handy during your outdoor adventures!
Oh awesome! Big big big fan of the outdoors! I love camping and fishing and all sorts. You’ve shared some really great items here! Thanks for the list!

Thanks for checking it out! I’ve never been too into fishing, but a lot of my family members are. Camping, however, has come to be a necessary part of life in our house 🙂
Great ideas! I am not an outdoorsy person, but I know someone who is!
You’re exactly the kind of person I wrote this for 🙂 I know that I have many friends/family that often joke about my husband and I being hard to buy for. The truth is, they just don’t share the same interests. We find them harder to shop for too lol
This is a very helpful article ?? Awesome yet affordable gift choices 🙂
Thank you!
My little brother likes to think he’s an “outdoor enthusiast” but he’s never even been camping! He only goes hiking lol I bet he’d love some of these gifts though. Thanks for sharing! (:

I LOVE a good hike – although, I’m sure if he loves hiking that much he would enjoy camping as well! Maybe he’ll have the opportunity to give it a try at some point 🙂
Love that ceiling fan/light and the coffee pot. I had no idea they made a propane coffee maker. This is getting me excited for my next camping trip!
Isn’t that awesome? We’ve always just done instant coffee with a kettle, but that’s a super tempting option! lol
Great list! My husband would want ALL these things! I’ll try to narrow it down. Thanks for putting this together!
I understand him well, I want ALL the things! Well, all the things I don’t already own… lol
Don’t know which one to choose, the whole list is mind-blowing yet affordable! I am thinking of camping now! Great idea. Thanks a lot for sharing.
There is something SO peaceful about camping – It’s my favourite vacation!
