Last weekend I attended a Christmas market here in the small town where I live, complete with a ton of local vendors. There really was something for everyone (and I dropped WAY too much money Christmas gift shopping) but there is one vendor that I wanted to be sure to share with all of you – Pawsitively a Dog Thing.

Full disclosure – this definitely wasn’t my first time purchasing their products. In fact, I have spent quite a bit on their dog treats since I discovered them last year. As those of you who have been following my blog for awhile know, I have a dog with a list of food allergies a mile long. Not only does this company have treats that she can enjoy, they have multiple options!

I have tried a couple different varieties, but the one I picked up this time (and I picked up a few bags because it’s her favourite of all the flavours that she has tried) is the ‘Savory Salmon & Sweet Potato’. These treats are wheat free, and they are limited ingredient, which means that you can select treats that will fit a restricted diet. In Dav’s case, she has a very small list of protein sources that she can handle and their treats allow me to pick and choose which are ‘Dav friendly’ and which aren’t without any hidden ingredients to worry about.

The ingredients of the ‘Savory Salmon & Sweet Potato’ treats are:

  • Rice flour
  • Salmon
  • Sweet potato
  • Oats
  • Eggs
  • Oregano

One of the things that stands out about Pawsitively a Dog Thing is that they are 100% local. All of the treats are handmade and hand packaged in Windsor, Ontario. The company has been around for 6 years and the owners are SUPER approachable. Both at last year’s gift show and again at this year’s I had questions about the treats and they were more than willing to answer them. They understand that our pups are family, as they too share these beliefs, and this can be seen in everything that they do.

The treats themselves are a HUGE hit in our house. In fact, I had a REALLY hard time taking the pictures for this post because the pups were there the second they heard me touch the package. I strongly believe that one reason they love them SO much is due to the fact that they are all quality ingredients – which means they taste great for the pups and they are healthy, easing the mind of us overprotective dog moms. As recommended, we keep the treats in the freezer, and we can’t open the freezer door without both pups running to the kitchen to give us the puppy eyes.

One program that they have available, that I haven’t taken advantage of yet but will be in the future, is their ‘Doggy Bag’ monthly subscriptions. With 3, 6 and 12-month options, they allow you to sign up, based on the size of your pup, to have treats delivered to your door. Now that we know just how much we’ve spent picking them up at local vendors this past year I believe that these subscriptions are well worth the cost! Plus, how convenient is that?

If you live in the Windsor/Essex area, or in London (as they are available there as well) I highly recommend giving them a try!

Does your pup have a favourite flavour of treat? What gets their tail wagging? Do you have any local vendors that you prefer to shop from?
