Hometown Tourist : Duck Pond Bed & Breakfast
It’s that time again – Time for another edition of Hometown Tourist! Today’s focus is going to be a little different – as I introduce you to an adorable little bed and breakfast my husband and I discovered in the small town of Leamington, Ontario (just outside of Windsor). The Duck Pond Bed & Breakfast is the perfect getaway for those of us who live in the area, as well as those coming to experience all the beauty that is Windsor/Essex!
In our case, we were looking for a weekend get away somewhere close to home. We wanted something smaller, a place where we could go recharge away from the hustle and bustle of day to day lives. Duck Pond certainly fit the bill!
A cute little cottage located out in the countryside, not far from Leamington, Ontario – Marjolein and Aad were amazing hosts, making our stay that much better! They were so warm and welcome from the moment that we pulled up.
The cottage includes its own little patio, with a BBQ for your use. From the patio you have a view of the most adorable little duck pond, where you can relax and bird watch to your heart’s content. It is close enough to all the local attractions to make it easy to spend your days at the festivals at Windsor’s Riverfront Plaza, or hiking the beautiful trails of Point Pelee (both of which you will see mentioned in upcoming Hometown Tourist posts). At the same time you are far enough out in the country to enjoy the quiet, serene peace that can only be found getting away from the city itself.
Inside the cottage you have everything you would need for a weekend away, all conveniently on one floor. A private bathroom, full kitchenette, clean and extremely comfortable bed and flat screen televisions in the living room area (which has a beautiful electric fireplace) with Netflix, TV and DVD if you are hoping to curl up for a movie night together.
As with any bed and breakfast, you have breakfast supplied for you. The breakfast is supplied the night before, so that you can wake up and enjoy it whenever you so choose. The actual food changes from guest to guest, as they describe on the corresponding page on their website, but from our experience it was delicious! I enjoyed an amazing veggie omelet, with fresh juice. If you do have dietary restrictions, just let them know when you are reserving your stay and they are more than willing to accommodate you!
Lastly, the proverbial icing on the cake, there is an array of information provided for you regarding the attractions in the area. Among this information, a number of local wineries have supplied free tasting passes. We have some PHENOMENAL wineries in the area, and my husband and I made a day out of just driving around to check some out.
If you are visiting all our local wineries, don’t forget to swing by Wolfhead Distillery!
If you are looking for a hidden gem for your next getaway, I highly recommend the Duck Pond Bed & Breakfast!
