harry potter, harry potter tag, hogwarts

** Warning: If you aren’t familiar with the Harry Potter series (who are you??? Just kidding…. But really???) there may be some spoilers in my answers below. **

While there are a number of Harry Potter tags floating around the internet, this specific one was created by Cassie at Zombie Goddess Beauty. She explained:

“As it is Harry Potter’s 37th Birthday today. And this year marks the 20th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone book’s release!

So today I’ve collected 18 questions that are floating around the internet. There are other HP tags floating around but I wanted to collect a bunch of the questions together.”

I want to thank Cassie for both putting this tag together, and for tagging me in it! I am a HUGE Harry Potter lover so this was bound to be WAY too much fun! I enjoyed reading her answers, which you should also check out here!

The idea is that you answer the list of Harry Potter themed questions, and then tag some of your fellow Harry Potter themed friends! Make sure you provide them with the list of questions you were given so that they too can answer them and pass on the tag!!!

My Answers:

  1. What house are you in?

I am a proud Slytherin! When I was first taking the test that is what I was hoping I was going to get because I was most drawn to the Slytherin house while reading the books. In preparing for this quiz (for a couple other answers below) I redid all my Pottermore quizzes again and once again – Slytherin! Curious as to why I am proud to rep the green? Read my post ‘Why I am a Proud Slytherin.’

  1. What is your patronus?

I have done the quiz on Pottermore but was honestly a little disappointed that there were no accompanying explanations. There are a lot of third parties that have come up with explanations, however many don’t include my patronus because it is apparently ‘uncommon.’ I got Tiger. The best explanation I found was on a Tumblr account called ‘Patronus Analysis.’ The explanation rang SUPER true, so I had to share:

The tiger is a very strong, independent patronus. They have a fierce personality to them that they show openly, and have no problem doing it. However, there is more to them than just an impression, they have parts of their past that are a bit dark, and that has caused them to grow a bit cynical. They don’t like to show their feelings to others, as they like to maintain the impression for themselves and for others that they are unbreakable. They are not fast to warm up to anyone, but once they do they will protect you with all that they have. The most common house for a tiger patronus is Slytherin.”

  1. What is your wand?

According to Pottermore: “Cedar wood with a phoenix feather core, 12 1/2” and reasonably supple flexibility.”

  1. What would your boggart be?

My biggest fear is the memories that I like to keep hidden from my past, so for that reason, I think a Dementor would be my boggart because it would force me to face all of these memories, while having the happiness sucked out of my life.

  1. What position would you play in Quidditch?

I think I’d be a beater, it just sounds like a lot of fun hahaha!

  1. Would you be a pure blood, half blood or muggle born?

Like Cassie, I am going to go based on something that has been circulating the Internet, explaining where you would fall in based on your familiarity with Harry Potter:

Muggles: People who haven’t seen the movies or read the books

Muggle-borns: People who have only seen the movies

Half-bloods: People who have only read the books

Pure Bloods: People who have read the books and seen the movies

Deatheaters: Pure Bloods that look down on Muggle-borns

According to this I am a Pure Blood (which would make sense with me being so closely tied to Slytherin), however, depending on the conversation I am having with people about Harry Potter the case could be made that I am also a Deatheater haha

  1. What job would you want after to have after graduating Hogwarts?

If I was going to work at Hogwarts, I would be teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts hands down! If I was going to go for a job outside of Hogwarts I believe I would want to be an Auror. I LOVE adventure and challenge and anything that can push me outside of my comfort zone, and I feel as though this would be all of that and more!

  1. Which of the deathly hallows would you choose?

I am all about the Elder Wand. I’m going to be completely honest and admit that I couldn’t turn down the opportunity to hold that much power in my hands, even if it ended up being short lived!

  1. Favourite book?

This is like asking a parent to choose their favourite child – it’s almost impossible. If someone literally had a wand to my head and I had no choice but to choose I guess I would choose The Order of the Phoenix. I had just been slightly disappointed (read the next question) and reading The Order of the Phoenix drew my passionately back into the world of Hogwarts and the life of Harry Potter. I was hooked, and I wasn’t about to go anywhere anytime soon hahaha!

  1. Least favourite book?

I have seen many other fans say it, and I will echo their thoughts – while I do love all the books in the series (and have read them all more than once at this stage) it took me a lot longer to get through The Goblet of Fire than any of the others. The first time through the series I was 110% hooked, and then struggled a few times at this point to keep going because I felt like it just didn’t measure up to the first 3, and was worried that the rest would, in turn, continue to be a little on the disappointing side… like it might be the start of a downward spiral. Boy, was I wrong!

  1. Favourite film?

Almost as hard as selecting a favourite book, I loved all the movies for a variety of reasons. If forced to choose one, I would say my personal favourite was The Deathly Hallows Part 1. I loved how much this revealed about the various characters involved with the Deatheaters, giving a closer look at their personalities and how each was handling the situation before them. I also felt as though this film, in particular, revealed a lot about Draco. There’s also all the action and excitement, can’t deny that hahaha!

  1. Least favourite film?

This may have a lot to do with the actual script and the story behind it, and the fact that (as I mentioned before) I struggled to really ‘get into it,’ but my least favourite film would be The Goblet of Fire.

  1. Favourite character?

I know that this is likely an unpopular opinion but I truly love and am intrigued by the character of Bellatrix Lestrange… I feel like there is so much depth to the character that we begin to understand if we take the time and pay attention to the smaller nuances of the book and/or movies. She grew up in a house where she was fed a specific view in regards to the superiority of ‘Pure Bloods’ and allowed herself to follow in her family’s footsteps. While many may then just shrug her off as another ‘evil’ character, there is this deep seeded sense of loyalty that you keep seeing whenever she is referencing Voldemort. She would genuinely do nearly anything for him, and not just for a need for power herself, but due to an unwavering loyalty for him.

I also feel as though she demonstrates a part of each us possess and keep hidden deep down inside. I don’t believe that any of us are perfect without a darker half, and Bellatrix was no different. When given the right motivation, this side can come out. In her case, her loyalty to Voldemort brought this side out full force, but look at the way the presence of evil in her life has literally driven her mad (I include her time at Azkaban as part of this presence of evil, as that was what brought her there). It’s like this secret life lesson tied into a character…

  1. Least favourite/most hated character?

I can’t stand Lucius Malfoy personally, and not just for the usual ‘he’s a Deatheater and therefore bad’ reason, obviously, I mean look at my last answer… I felt as though the character of Lucius Malfoy was a self-centered, egotistical, narcissistic prick to say the least… We had a chance to see this side of him in the horrible way in which he treated Dobby. I also feel as though he took a parenting road that we often see in distant parents who don’t truly connect with their children. Sure, he spoiled Draco, but he did so with money and material things, rather than developing a real relationship. I’m not saying he didn’t love Draco deep down, but his approach to expressing it left MUCH to be desired. He was very focused on the ‘Malfoy’ name and pushing the importance of upkeeping this name, reputation, and appearance on Draco at every turn. Even after having his wand taken and being disrespected in his own home, Lucius is ready to sell the trio just to get his position of power back. While I will agree that his fear of Voldemort was behind many of his actions, it was more than that. There was a deeper underlying cold, calculated personality.

  1. Favourite teacher at Hogwarts?

While I will agree that he may not have been the best teacher overall because he allowed his own emotions and preconceived notions impact the way he responded to some situations, I have a deep love for Snape. He’s highly misunderstood throughout the book, and as they wrap up his character later in the series we finally begin to learn the underlying motive behind a number of his choices. I feel like we would have a COMPLETELY different impression of him created if the books had been written from his point of view, or if they had revealed more about his past early on. He may not have always made the best choices in his efforts to protect those he cared about, or ultimately work against Voldemort, but I believe he was genuine, and that is an important characteristic!

  1. Least favorite teacher at Hogwarts?

While he isn’t really a teacher, I think he counts – I’m going to say Dumbledore. Sure, there was the pure evil that we saw come out in Umbridge, but I feel like there was a bigger issue with Dumbledore being in a position of power. He touted his care for all of the students and acted as though he was righteous, however many of his decisions in regards to Harry really bring this into question. He obviously knew the situation that Harry was being raised in at the Dursley’s based on the fact they were able to address his letter to the cupboard under the stairs, however, he allowed him to continue to live in this situation, being treated in this way. In the beginning it’s easy to buy into the overall idea that maybe he just ‘didn’t know’ however as you make your way towards the end of the series it becomes clear that he was preparing Harry to be the perfect little soldier to face Voldemort and be willing to die. So was Dumbledore truly caring about the entire student body, or did he allow Harry to be treated horribly with a terrible childhood because he was more of a ‘tool’ to him or a ‘pawn’ in his game than he was an actual human being in his eyes? Really makes you question his position of power…

  1. Do you have any unpopular opinions about the series?

Pretty sure I’ve revealed a few in my previous answers hahaha – from my love of Bellatrix to my distrust and dislike of Dumbledore and the motivation behind the choices he has made. I’m sure I could go on and list a few more, but we’ll leave it at that for now… Maybe I will share more in another blog post at some point!

  1. If you could save one character from the finale battle who would you save?

This was difficult for me because it said ‘one character.’ Personally, I would love to save Lupin and Tonks, however, to save one and not the other I feel would have been unbelievably hard on them. While part of me would love to save Snape, I think he genuinely died with some sense of peace, feeling as though he was able to carry out what he was destined to do, and would now return to Lily in the afterlife. I didn’t’ get this sense of finality for Fred Weasley, so I would save him.

I wanted to be sure to tag actual Harry Potter lovers, and not those that wouldn’t truly get excited for this type of tag, or wouldn’t know the series well enough to have answers to the questions. To do this I put a call out on my Twitter asking for Harry Potter fans to check in and went from there. The response was more than I had expected, so it is a large list than I was anticipating! That being said, I can’t wait to read all of your answers! Let’s spread the Harry Potter love!!!!!

Do you share any of the opinions that I revealed above? Do you disagree with anything I shared? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comment section below!
