It’s coming, it’s coming! Time for my favourite season of the year! I mean, I’m not trying to rush summer past, I do love the swimming, camping and beach days. However, there is something about autumn that I just can’t get enough of! Brightly coloured leaves, cool breezes, hot chocolate, scarves, boots, fingerless gloves, sweaters and, most importantly, HALLOWEEN!
That’s right, I am a total Halloween addict!
I started planning out and putting together my costume months ago, slowly picking up bits and pieces as needed. There are a few more parts I need to get together, one I need to make, but I think it’s going to be epic. I don’t even know where I am going to be wearing it for sure yet, its too early to know what parties and get togethers are going to happen, but there is bound to be at least a few to choose from!
While I am going to keep my costume somewhat under wraps until closer to time, I am going to share a little about my plans for the decorations. We moved into a new house last November, just missing the chance to decorate for the holiday. Instead, I started planning with a good friend, looking up ideas for this year. We’ve decided we’re going to go all out Harry Potter!
For the past few months, we have been spending countless days on Pinterest saving up any and all blog posts that catch our attention. This is going to be the start, I’m sure, of a series of posts as I work my way through my DIY projects. Here are some of the ideas I’m tossing around…
No Harry Potter themed house decoration would be complete without some magic-themed books. I want to put a small bookshelf out front and place a few spell books, potion bottles and other smaller objects on it like these:
We have a tree front and center at the house, and I want to hang something from its branches. I have been tossing around a couple different ideas at this stage. Maybe you can all help me decide on this one! First, there is the idea to do the typical floating candles like these:
Or, going a little more ‘traditional Halloween’ meets Harry Potter, I could replicate the floating jack-o-lanterns during their own Halloween decorations using some plastic or styrofoam pumpkins painted and decorated (I have seen them already at the dollar stores here) with some battery-operated tea lights and go for a look like these hanging below the branches, giving the illusion of them floating in my front yard:
I always have a wreath on my front door, and it tends to change with some of the various holidays. I think I will be making a new one to fit this theme even better. I am leaning towards a black snack wreath similar to this one, and then I can put a Slytherin crest on it (Slytherin Pride!!!):
Finally, with Halloween always comes carving jack-o-lanterns. The fun of carving them, the creativity of different ideas, and don’t forget gathering the pumpkin seeds to roast! Pinterest has been full of great Harry Potter themed ideas to get the creative juices flowing, like these:
While I am still in the planning stage right now, I can’t wait to start putting some of this to work now that my summer term finals are over! My house is just days from turning into Halloween central as I begin crafting and putting everything together.
Are you a fan of Halloween? Do you have any big plans going on this year?
