It’s that time again – time to share with you my favourite items of the previous month! As I explained when writing my previous favourites post in March, I don’t identify as a beauty blogger or a fashion blogger specifically – so there are no specific requirements of the items I choose to feature in these posts in that regard. The simply must be something I have used and loved over the previous weeks!

Luminessence Black Cherry Scented Jar Candle

candle, black cherry, scented candle, jar candle

I am a huge fan of a house that ‘smells’ good. An ‘off’ smell is enough to throw my whole day off, and kill any chance or productivity. With my business being based out of my home office, and my current College status being as an online student I am home constantly!

There is also the pet thing – with 2 dogs and 2 cats in the house in the house it doesn’t take long some days for the house to smell like ‘animal’ which drives me insane! Just because I have animals in my house doesn’t mean it needs to smell like animal… So, on top of the regular cleaning to keep everything fresh and ready to go, I use a few different products like scented oils, wax warmers (similar to Scentsy, although I’ve never used a brand name warmer) and scented candles.

This candle just smells amazing. The black cherry smell is strong enough to cover multiple rooms, but not so strong that you can’t handle it when you are in the same room as the candle itself while its burning. They come in pillar style, bowl and jar candles depending on what is available at the time. Best part? It was a relatively cheap Walmart find!

Lifeproof Nuud iPhone 5S Phone Case

phone case, lifeproof case, cellphone case

I have a long, sordid history with cellphones throughout my 20s. I would start off with a brand new phone approximately every 3-6 months not because I couldn’t make up my mind, but because I drowned them… all of them… each and every one… That’s right, cellphones came to me to die a watery death! It wasn’t like it was even just one specific error I kept making. For example, while working for a cellphone retailer a friend was telling me that it is super common for women to come in after their phones wind up in the toilet. We put them in the back pocket of our jeans, and when you go to pull your pants down, forgetting about your phone, plop there it is. Sure, I will admit one went that way, but only one. I also dropped one in a bucket of mop water, lost one in a sink of dishes, dropped numerous in various puddles in yards and parking lots… I even lost one in a pitcher of beer (that’s a story for another day).

After getting tired of getting the usual ‘Hey, so can you send me a text to see if it will go through’ message from me on Facebook, a friend introduced me to Lifeproof. I didn’t buy one at that time because I balked at the price (while continuing to replace my phones every 3-6 months, because that made more sense, right?). When a few years later the brand was brought up again by a co-worker I decided it was time to give it a try.

They carry two different styles of case – Nuud and Fre. I was told to get the Nuud by said co-worker, so I went for it. The Nuud case is designed to allow you to actually touch the screen of your phone, without having anything covering it. The Fre style covers your screen however the material that they use still allows for touch screen capabilities. I LOVE their cases. It has been a few years now that I have used them, and I have even used the warranties on a few occasions (which they are AMAZING to deal with on – they quickly replace the phones, including FedEx’ing the replacement to my door, 2-day shipping). I even had one phone thrown into the pool by my little niece and it made no difference!

I HIGHLY recommend these cases to anyone that is hard on your cellphones!!! Full disclosure, shortly after taking the pictures to write this blog I broke the featured white/grey Nuud case. The company no longer offers the Nuud style cases for the 5/5s/SE, so it has been replaced with a black Fre style case. This is my first time using the Fre and I actually love it even more than the Nuud!

Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid in Possessed Plum

lipstick, liquid lipstick, makeup, cosmetics

I have recently joined several ‘Alternative Beauty’ themed groups on Facebook. These groups focus on the fact that those with tattoos, piercing, unnatural coloured hair, body modifications and more are all beautiful in their own unique way. They also give us a place to talk to others who share our style preferences to discuss the brands we use, tips for makeup application and more. I mentioned in a conversation with one of the members that I have been obsessing over the dark plumb lip looks on Pinterest and she told me to just bite the bullet and make it happen – so I did!

The next day I was out shopping for completely unrelated things and happened to wander through the cosmetic section of my favourite drug store (just happened to right, I wasn’t obviously looking at makeup or anything…). I don’t regularly by Maybelline products, and I had never tried their Vivid Matte Liquid line, but it was just SO perfect colour wise to matching the pins I had been obsessing over, and the cost was low enough that if I hated it, I wasn’t going to regret the money spent, so I went for it.

Result? I LOVE the colour, it goes on with such a rich, dark plum colour – so beautiful! Downfall? It has a very short lifespan before it comes off, especially if you’re having a drink or something that will rub it off. The colour fades quickly with anything coming in contact with it, losing that dark rich plumb. For the price though, I don’t feel guilty reapplying it from time to time to keep the colour up! While I will likely keep my yes open for something with a little more staying power, at this point I’m loving on this one!

Mental Beats Portable Charger

phone charger, cellphone charger, charger, portable charger

I am sure that there are many of you who can agree with me, these days we are more reliant on our cellphones than ever before! With me starting up my marketing business, plus getting back into blogging this year, I feel like my phone battery just doesn’t stand a chance! Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, etc… You name it, it’s always going! Add to that the fact that I use an app for my tuner and metronome when teaching music, and an app as my television and radio remote, and it never gets a break!

I had been considering getting a portable charger, but I wasn’t sure how often I would actually take the time to use one. There is a good chance that I would completely forget that it was even in my purse knowing me! For this reason, I decided to start by giving a cheaper version a try. If I find that I like having it, and use it regularly, I will invest a little more into it at that time.

This little charger does a pretty good job. Now, if my phone is completely dead it won’t give it a full 100% charge, it doesn’t have quite enough juice for that, but it will give me about ¾ of a charge and keep me going until I can get somewhere to plug my phone in, which is what I want! For less than $10 to purchase, I would say it is worth the price! Oh, and as for using it? I have forgotten it was there a few times, but I am getting better!

Ottawa Senators Watch

watch, ottawa senators, hockey, sens

Those of you who follow me on social media already know this far too well I’m sure, but for those who don’t I am a HUGE Ottawa Senators fan! Friends here could tell you stories about the game being on the television and the zone I get into… People talking to me and I didn’t even have a clue they were talking. With the team in the Playoffs right now I get the NHL live stream going on my phone if I have to be out of the house, including on my music stand during band rehearsal (Shhh, don’t tell the director lol) just so I don’t have to miss the game. I even have an Ottawa themed manicure right now – because I can’t have anything but Sens nails with the Sens in the Playoffs!!!!

My husband, however, can’t be helped… He is a Maple Leafs fan. I know, I have tried to talk some sense into him, I’ve even tried to shake some sense into him, but its just not sinking in. I will give him credit though, this watch was my surprise Christmas gift from him.

The white band is a rubber style band, but it is super soft so it has the easy to clean benefits of the rubber band, but still comfortable to wear. The face has a perfectly visible Ottawa Senators logo, and the hint of bling gives it a girly flair. Perfect for any Ottawa Senators fan!
