food, nutrition, breakfast

Today’s society seems to always be on the go…. If you aren’t on the move, you’re busy planning your next steps. This fast-paced lifestyle has taken its toll on our eating habits. While the amount of fast food consumed seems to be on a constant rise, many skip breakfast all together in favour of a coffee cup in hand. I know, I was one of them.

I’m trying to get back into the habit of eating healthier, and a big part of that is introducing breakfast back into the mix.

I’m going to be honest, my days are CRAZY! Between work, school, band, etc… I just don’t have time every morning to kick back with a full-blown breakfast plate. This prompted me to go on the search of super easy, quick breakfast ideas that would leave me feeling full and ready to take on the day.

Here are some of my favourites….

breakfast, oatmeal, fruit

  1. Steel Cut Oats & Fruit

This is my absolute favourite breakfast go to these days. I pick up the PC Blue Menu Steel Cut Oats in individual packages, which means all I have to do is boil and add water in the morning. Add some fresh cut fruit on top and you have a delicious breakfast that is super fast to throw together on the move.

  1. Smoothies

Smoothies are a great way to get your fruit and veggie fix on the go. Whip them up and toss them in a travel cup, and you can even enjoy your breakfast during your morning commute! There are SO many different varieties, giving you the chance to change it up every day if you so desire! I prepare smoothie packets in advance (a variety of cut up fruit/veggies in a Ziploc bag) and leave them in my freezer. That way in the morning I just toss them in a blender with some milk (skim or almond) and yogurt and I am on the move! Needing to up your protein? You can always go for a Greek yogurt, or add some peanut butter!

  1. Homemade Breakfast Wraps

Another great idea for when you’re on the move are homemade breakfast wraps. Throw a few eggs (or egg whites) in a pan, scramble them up with some cheese and veggies – adding some extra nutrients. Throw the full scrambled mixture into a whole wheat flat bread and you’re ready to go! If you master wrapping them you can make sure that they stay firmly together in your hand, making them a great breakfast when you just can’t afford the time to sit down and enjoy.

  1. Waffle Tacos

Its not often I promote the use of premade/prepackaged food, but I am going to admit that I use frozen waffles when it comes to this one…. Toast your favourite frozen waffle (obviously, some options are going to be healthier than others). When its ready to go, spread a tablespoon of peanut butter across the waffle, and then add your favourite fruits. While adding the fruit, if you bend the waffle and hold it similar to a waffle you can easily keep the fruit inside and voila – waffle tacos, breakfast style!

So there you have it – no excuse to be skipping breakfast when it gets this easy!
